Alver Damp og Dypp – (Isdalstø)

(2/5) This review was written by a Finn who's bathed in the sauna weekly for their whole life. The sauna is okay, but needs improvement on several areas.The good things: - the temperature was great, about 82 degrees during our hour. The stove was a real Finnish sauna stove, though they seemed to have chosen a model that goes in the center of the sauna, but placed it in the corner (which is a valid spot for an oven) - the view of the fjord was amazing, though boats were in the way.Things that need improvement: - the ventilation of the sauna was lacking. The view was obstructed by the moisture of throwing water on the stove. The windows should get moisture after throwing, but it needs to disappear. A sauna needs good air intake at floor level and exhaust at head level. They seemed to have drilled a small hole in the floor, that maybe works as an intake. At head level was a valve for exhaust, but with all too small holes, that barely seemed to pass air. We kept the door open, but that lowered the temperature too much for our liking. - when throwing water at the stove, the door seemed to open, which was annoying. They seemed to have installed a lock from the inside to prevent this. But I don't know whose idea it was to make it out of metal and put it at the top of the door. It was scalding hot to the touch. - every good sauna needs a bench outside for cooling and relaxing, but at Damp og Dypp, you had to stand. - the shower floor and mats were covered in green mold. If they don't like to get on all fours and scrub it away, then at least change the mats.Things that were disclosed but could use improvement for a better experience: - the bathroom is quite far away. - no tap for water bottle refill, only the moldy shower. - only cold water shower. - in the sauna were instructions for flapping your towel to increase air flow. I've never heard of this and it seems silly. Improve the airflow of the actual sauna instead of having the customers flap their towels. - there were people smoking on the port by the sauna, which disturbed the experience a bit.

(5/5) Wonderful! Great sauna, area to change, shower, and ladders to cool off. We had some trouble booking and got a quick response and they were able to help us book. Great last sauna to our Norway trip! Would absolutely recommend!
